LEBANON A 39-year-old Mason man with a history of sex offenses returns to court next month for sentencing after a jury convicted him late Thursday of holding a vacuum cleaner saleswoman against her will and pulling her shirt off.
The jury deliberated in Warren County Common Pleas Court an hour before finding Leslie D. Stair guilty of kidnapping and gross sexual imposition.
Mr. Stair, who has spent nine years in a military prison since 1985 on rape and assault convictions, faces a sentence of up to 9 1/2 years on the charges.
Judge Neal Bronson revoked Mr. Stair's bond and jailed the over-the-road truck driver pending a pre-sentence investigation.
Assistant Prosecutor Joanne Hash said Mr. Stair also served time in prison in the early 1990s on an aggravated assault conviction. Judge Bronson will decide whether to declare Mr. Stair a sexual predator when he returns for sentencing.
Mason police arrested Mr. Stair July 30 after a 20-year-old woman who works for Kirby told police he accosted her at his Tradewind Drive residence when she arrived to pick up a vacuum he had declined to buy.
The woman told Mason police she was gathering up the vacuum when Mr. Stair came from behind, grabbed her by the hips and ordered her to take off her shirt.
When she refused, Mr. Stair pulled the shirt off and told her he could rape her if he wanted to, the Fairborn woman told police.
Mr. Stair allowed her to leave when she told him her friends were waiting for her outside, a police report
said.
