Suspect in killing faces bond hearing
By Dan Horn
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Murder suspect Tony Ringer will find out next week whether he can remain free while awaiting the start of his trial.
Prosecutors asked a judge Friday to revoke or increase Mr. Ringer's $1 million bond, but they won't get an answer until a bond hearing Monday.
Mr. Ringer, 30, of Westwood, is charged with shooting to death Cassandra Betts on Dec. 20.
Prosecutors say Mr. Ringer's bond should be revoked because he fled police Wednesday night during a routine traffic stop. But Mr. Ringer's attorney, Kenneth Lawson, argued Friday that the police mistakenly identified the driver as Mr. Ringer.
Mr. Lawson said his client did not own the car in question and was at home in bed when the incident occurred. He said a man who had access to the car closely resembles Mr. Ringer.
Judge Richard Niehaus will decide the issue Monday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court.
