UK student president censured
He escapes removal from office
The Associated Press
LEXINGTON The University of Kentucky's student Senate has voted to censure the student government president, who escaped being removed from office.
After more than five hours of heated debate that began Wednesday, the UK Student Government Association Senate issued a resolution expressing displeasure with, but not removing, two-term President Jimmy Glenn.
That vote was taken after midnight Thursday morning.
The tense discussion was often peppered with outbursts from the crowd, which included Mr. Glenn's parents and many stu dents showing support for the Owensboro senior.
The charges included:
Buying advertising in the Kentucky Kernel, the UK student newspaper, without Senate authorization.
Trying to remove one of the student representatives from the presidential search committee.
Failing to award child-care grants to students last spring.
Violating his oath of office.
Represented by law student Alan Donohue, Mr. Glenn's introduced letters of support from the Board of Trustees and representatives of the Kentucky Kernel.
The group fought bitterly about what action to take against Mr. Glenn, finally voting 26-1 to approve a document outlining its concerns with his performance.
Mr. Glenn said he has told the senators that he's willing to work with them and wants better communication.
Hopefully now we can work to be a unified force, he said. I will continue to work hard in the best interests of the students, and I'm willing to work with the Senate.
About 200 students showed up to watch the meeting Wednesday, which forced the assembly into a larger room.
