A guide to help make your day

Going out

Philharmonia Orchestra: Slip into your tutu, or something, and try a night of works celebrating ballet in Paris at the turn of the century. Stravinsky's lively Petrouchka and Ravel's Valses Nobles et Sentimentales and La Valse, are among works in the hands of CCM's Philharmonia under the direction of Mark Gibson. 8 p.m. today, UC's Corbett Auditorium. Free. 556-4183.

Health program: A bone disease affecting millions of women, the dreaded osteoporosis, gets tell-all treatment when clinical nurse/educator Gail Greenburg discusses new research and treatment, then provides an overview of the best-selling Strong Women, Strong Bones. 7 p.m. today, Barnes & Noble Tri-County, 895 E. Kemper Road, Springdale. 671-3822.

Landscape class: Horticulturist Steve Foltz opens a series of classes on everything from soil preparation and plant selection to maintenance and design options. 7-9 p.m. today, Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, 3400 Vine St., Avondale, $6 per class. Continues Wednesdays through March 28. 559-7767.

Staying In

TV picks: Chief of Staff Leo McGarry (John Spencer) urges the president to authorize a new missile defense system while dodging the new British ambassador (Roger Rees) on The West Wing (9 p.m., Channels 5, 22).

        • TV Critic John Kiesewetter says TV Land's Mary Tyler Moore Show marathon continues this week (8 p.m.-midnight) to promote MTM joining the lineup at 9 p.m. next week.

The Goods

Disc picks) It's Jennifer Lopez Week in the record stores, as the Latina crossover star releases her second solo CD, J.Lo (Epic; $18.98 CD; $12.98 cassette) at the same time as the soundtrack from her movie, The Wedding Planner (Hollywood; $17.98 CD). She doesn't sing on the latter — it's such '70s wedding faves as Olivia Newton John's “I Honestly Love You” and John Denver's “Annie's Song.”

On a local note, Cincinnatian Dan Miller (who finally made it on ABC TV's Making the Band) is on the show's pre-fab group's self-titled debut, O-Town (J Records/BMG; $17.98 CD; $11.98 cassette).

George Harrison gets the deluxe reissue treatment for All Things Must Pass (Capitol; $26.98, two CDs).

Planning Ahead

24 hours out: Painting a bowl of fruit — easy stuff, right? Wrong. Find out how wrong when expert Dr. Samuel Segal presents “The Sumptuous Still Life in 17th Century Holland” examining the symbolism and beauty of the works. 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Taft Museum of Art, 316 Pike St., downtown. $5, RSVP required. 241-0343, Ext. 15.

48 hours out: If it's the end of the month it must be “Final Friday,” the open house that lets visitors tour more than 100 art studios on eight floors of a converted warehouse. 6-10 p.m. Friday, Pendleton Arts Center, 1310 Pendleton St., Over-the-Rhine. 929-4089.

72 hours 'til Saturday: Jack and the Beanstalk gets turned a wee bit upside down when ARTrageous Saturdays presents Intuition Theatre's take on Jack and the nasty giant. Jack and the Mean Beans is 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Raymond Walters College, RWC Theater, 9555 Plainfield Road, Blue Ash. $3. 745-5705.

Get To It appears daily. Send items to Get To It, Tempo, Cincinnati Enquirer, 312 Elm St., Cincinnati 45202; fax: 768-8330.
