Camps from around the world and the Tristate will be represented at the 25th annual Indian Hill Camp Fair on Feb. 10 at Indian Hill High School, 6845 Drake Road.

        The camp fair is the second-largest of its kind east of the Mississippi River. Each year, 80 to 100 local, national and international camp representatives show off their programs to families seeking summer opportunities for their children.

        Camp offerings are more diverse today than 25 years ago when the fair began. Traditional outdoor camping experiences are still available, but camps now include an eclectic mix of enrichment programs.

        In an American Camping Association (ACA) survey, 75 percent of the directors reported adding new activities and programs over the last few years.

        The most common trend is to challenging and adventurous activities, including high and low ropes courses, climbing walls, zip lines, backpacking, mountain biking and cave exploring. There is also an increased emphasis on performing arts and fine arts, such as dance, theater, singing, ceramics, leather crafts, woodworking and photography.

        “Over half of the camps surveyed reported having community service or good deed programs incorporated into their camp program,” said Connie Coutellier, director of professional development for the ACA.
