What Tristaters are reading

        • Candace Alexander, Director of programs and education, Cincinnati chapter of the American Heart Association:

Building Your Field of Dreamsby Mary Mannin Morrisey (Bantam Books; $12.95).

“It's sort of based on a concept of the understanding that our way of thinking, our attitude toward things, affects our behavior, and as a result, the outcome of that behavior.

“It's based on a lot of optimism. She sort of believes in not original sin, but original innocence, and when we do things that are not good for us or for others, it's simply because we've forgotten who we are, from the standpoint of all of us having the Creator in us.

“But when we remember and acknowledge who we are and whose we are, we treat ourselves and others in very loving ways, and it enables us to accomplish things that we could not otherwise. It's a wonderful book.”

        • Diane Utaski, Owner, Cincinnati Yoga School and Bookstore in Blue Ash:

Yoga and the Quest for the True Self by Stephen Cope (Random House; $24.95).

“It talks about modern day issues and how to live in this society by getting in touch with a deeper part of ourselves, that spirit part that is our true nature, and how to do it in a busy, working world. And it's got a lot of examples in it of people's lives and the lifestyles we live today — and yoga can fit in to those lifestyles. It's a great book.”
