N.Ky. boys basketball games


Late free throws carry No.2 Scott

The Cincinnati Enquirer

        Chris Thompson and Justin Morris combined to make three free throws in the final 20 seconds to give Scott a 71-68 victory over Simon Kenton Saturday.

        Thompson, who scored a game-high 18 points, made the go-ahead shot with less than a minute to go. Morris finished with 15 points.

        Jordan Stowers paced No.4 Simon Kenton with 16 points.

        Ben Lye added 15 points for Scott, the No.2 team in the Enquirer's coaches poll.

        • Covington Catholic 77, St. Henry 72 — Matt Finke scored five of his seven points in the fourth quarter to lead the top-ranked Colonels to the come-from-behind victory over the No.9 Crusaders.

        CovCath took the lead for good a minute into the fourth quarter when Jonathan Blazejewski grabbed a defensive rebound and hit Brian Lewin with an outlet pass that Lewin converted with a layup to give the Colonels a 61-60 edge.

        St. Henry hit eight of its first 10 3-point shots on its way to a five-point halftime lead.

        Lewin led four CovCath players in double figures with 20 points. Andrew Vieth took game-high scoring honors with 25 points.

        • Conner 85, Mason County 67 — Senior forward Jeremy Stephenson shot a career-high eight 3-pointers and scored a career-high 37 points.

        Senior guard Jason Hudgens scored a career-high 21 points for the No.5 Cougars.

        Freshman forward Chris Lofton paced the Royals with 15 points.

        • Walton-Verona 70, Beechwood 52 — Brent Berkemeier scored 10 of his career-high 13 points in the second half as the Bearcats built a 10-point lead midway through the third quarter and never looked back.

        Robbie Huellemeier paced Walton-Verona with 25 points. Kyle Boyles and Ross Hart each scored 12 for Beechwood.

        • Bowling Green 57, Newport Central Catholic 47 In a game that saw nine lead changes, it came down to clutch free throws for Bowling Green in the forth quarter.

        Bowling Green hit 12 of 17 free throws, including 10 of 13 in the fourth quarter, to pull away from the Thoroughbreds.

        Corey Myers paced No.3 NCC with 18 points.

        • Williamstown 79, Pendleton County 77 — Williamstown led by eight points with less than two minutes left, but the Demons needed clutch free throw shooting down the stretch to hold off the Wildcats after senior forward Andrew Gosney and junior guard Brad Cox each hit 3-pointers to get Pendleton County back in contention.

        Gosney scored a game-high 28 points to surpass the 1,000-point level for his career.

        Williamstown senior forward Nick Knight had 20 points and nine rebounds. Junior forward Brett McCandlass led the Demons with 24 points.
