Ditch the coat - for a day or 2
By Tom O'Neill
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Wearing a thick winter coat, Winnie the Pooh earmuffs and a look of disbelief, Teaira Daniels stood at a downtown bus stop Tuesday night and started making plans for today and Thursday.
Heat waves can do that to Cincinnatians in early February. Temperatures could reach 60 or higher by Thursday.
The 16-year-old Northside girl's smile graduated into laughter. Really? I might wear a skirt.
The record high for Thursday's date is 67 in 1925. Today is expected to reach the high 40s. The average high this time of year is the upper 30s.
John DiStefano, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Wilmington, said Thursday's temperature could go as high as 65.
Greater Cincinnati will likely get just one shot at breaking the record.
Friday's temperatures will slide back to the middle to lower 50s with increasing clouds and possibly showers, said Mr. DiStefano, followed by a weekend of highs below 40.
You have variability in every season, Mr. DiStefano explained, so it's not unusual to get a real warm snap. It's wintertime, you have systems that progress. The door will be open for warmer air.
