NewCath wins in overtime in Lexington

        Two free throws by Kris Kellinghaus gave Newport Central Catholic a 53-51 win over Lexington Lafayette in overtime Saturday at Lexington Dunbar.

        The Generals missed a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer.

        Senior forward Seth Lynn led the Thoroughbreds (third in the Enquirer's coaches poll) with 21 points.

        • Beechwood 62, Silver Grove 49 — Beechwood opened the game with a 10-0 run and handed Silver Grove its second loss this season.

        Silver Grove closed the gap to 45-42 with about three minutes left in the game, but junior guard Ross Hart came up with two steals and converted both with uncontested layups to put Beechwood up by seven.

        Hart and Josh Morris tied for team-high scoring honors with 12 points each. Senior forward Jimmy Horstman led Silver Grove with 19 points.

        Ben Lye scored 11 points and had 12 rebounds for Scott, ranked No.1 in the Enquirer's coaches poll.

        Junior forwards Brett Mullins and Michael Hopkins shared Lloyd's team-high scoring honors with 15 points each.
