The house caught fire at about 6 a.m., township Fire Chief Goebel Williams said. No one was hurt, he said.
An adjoining, unoccupied home was scorched by the heat.
Fire officials said they think the fire was sparked by a drywall heater in the basement. It spread quickly, but firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in about 20 minutes, Chief Williams said.
The home, which was nearly finished, is considered a total loss, he said.
The house, previously owned by Ron Horton of Horton Homes, recently had been sold to an unnamed couple who planned to move in within a few weeks. Mr. Horton could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
The fire remains under investigation.
