Officials re-create scene of twins' deaths
The Associated Press
MANCHESTER, Ky. Authorities used dolls and a crib to reconstruct the scene where 3-month-old twin boys died in Clay County this month to help determine what caused their unexplained simultaneous deaths.
Dr. John Hunsaker of the state medical examiner's office said tests are under way to help determine why twins Gabriel and William Jones died. It could be at least three more weeks before some results are available, Dr. Hunsaker said.
Relatives caring for the boys said they awoke about 11 a.m. Feb. 3 and found the infants blue and unresponsive in the crib they were sharing.
Re-creating the scene could provide information about whether the babies suffocated because of the position in which they were lying.
That's one of the many possibilities, Dr. Hunsaker said.
Officials last week used two dolls that weighed the same as the twins, along with their crib and blankets, he said. Investigators said they will study a range of possible causes, including exposure to carbon monoxide or other environmental factors.
The twins lived with their mother, Lisa Wagers, outside Manchester in Price Hollow. Ms. Wagers was in Lexington when they died.
