Louisville to fire Crum, report says
Enquirer news services
LOUISVILLE Pressure is mounting for a decision on whether Denny Crum will remain as basketball coach at Louisville.
Broadcast and Internet reports Thursday cited unnamed sources saying a decision to force the Hall of Fame coach's retirement already has been made by athletic director Tom Jurich.
Andy Katz of ESPN.com cited anonymous sources seven times in a report that said Jurich's relationship with Crum is irreconcilable and that if Crum is unwilling to accept a negotiated buyout, the university is ready to fire him.
ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Bilas said on ESPN's SportsCenter that Crum would not return as coach next season.
Jurich said he would have no public reaction to the reports.
Crum declined comment.
Said UofL president John Shumaker: We have learned that ESPN and local media have broadcast that UofL will be terminating Coach Crum's contract. This information is not true.
It's time to calm down and wait, Shumaker told WHAS-TV. Nothing is going to happen until the end of the season.
Crum's contract has two years remaining
