State takes action to redirect agriculture
The Associated Press
LEXINGTON A noted Harvard University business professor will help to create a plan for Kentucky agriculture and rural development. Gov. Paul Patton announced the hiring of Ray Goldberg, an emeritus professor of agriculture and business at Harvard, on Friday.
Also, Mr. Patton said the director of the federal Farm Service Agency, Hoppy Henton, will lead a new center for agricultural development and entrepreneurship.
Both initiatives grow from the investment of the state's portion of the national tobacco settlement. About $180 million has been set aside this year and next to help farmers find new ways to make a living.
