Moeller wins GCL South championship

The Cincinnati Enquirer

        Matt Sylvester scored 22 points to lead Moeller past LaSalle 67-51 Friday night, giving the Crusaders the Greater Catholic League South championship.

        Senior Clint Nagel added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Moeller, which is ranked No.3 in The Enquirer's Di vision I area coaches poll.

        Moeller outrebounded LaSalle 31-21.

        Senior guard Jeff Hyle led LaSalle with 12 points.

        • Elder 67, St. Xavier 62 (OT) — Mike Kroeger and Craig Cashen traded 3-pointers in the final minute to send the game into over time. Tim Schenke hit one free throw to break the tie and Elder, ranked No.5 in The Enquirer's Division I coaches poll, never trailed again.

        Kroeger came off the bench in the second quarter for Elder to go 9-for-9 from the field for a game-high 22 points. Scott Benken and Tim Schenke each had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Panthers.

        Jordan Cornette led No.6 St. Xavier with 17 points.

        • Kettering Alter 63, McNicholas 45 — Senior forward Trey Jones scored 14 points to lead the Knights. Alter, which trailed by two points after the first quarter, outscored McNicholas 20-15 in the second to take a 33-30 halftime lead.

        Junior forward Brian Shrin led the Rockets, the No.2 team in The Enquirer's Divisions II-IV coaches poll, with 11 points.

        • Roger Bacon 55, Chaminade-Julienne 46 — Bacon, the top-ranked team in The Enquirer's Divisions II-IV coaches poll, was led by Josh Hausfeld's season-high 27 points, four steals and four assists.

        Sophomore forward Jermiel Atkins led Chaminade with 15 points.

        • Purcell Marian 55, Badin 48 — Senior Keith Jackson finished with a game-high 20 points for the Cavaliers, and Tony Fulks added with 12 points.

        Purcell Marian, ranked No.4 in The Enquirer's Divisions II-IV coaches poll, made four free throws late in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

        Junior Bret Noonan scored 13 points for Badin.
