Former P&G worker accused of stealing data
The Cincinnati Enquirer
A Hamilton County grand jury indicted a former Procter & Gamble employee Wednesday on two felony charges of burglary and unauthorized use of property.
Robert DeVirgilio, 37, who lives in the state of California, is accused of entering P&G's Cincinnati-based headquarters, days after his employment was terminated, and illegally accessing a company database containing information on P&G customers. Hamilton County Prosecutor Mike Allen said Mr. DeVirgilio, who had worked in P&G's coffee products division, ended his employ ment with P&G Dec. 27, 1999, but returned to the building late at night between Jan. 13 and Jan. 18, 2000, to get information from a secure database.
The defendant ... failed to turn in his access badge, Mr. Allen said, adding that the database contained proprietary information about home cleaning products.
Mr. DeVirgilio then went to work for a competitor in the home cleaning products area, officials said.
If convicted, Mr. DeVirgilio could face up to nine years in prison.
