A guide to help make your day

Going out

Opera: World-class opera finds its way to Miami University tonight as the touring company of the London City Opera performs Bizet's steamy morality tale Carmen, sung in French with subtitles. 7:30 p.m. at Millett Hall on the Oxford campus. $11-$24. (513) 529-3200.

"Grand Hotel': A beguiling assortment of guests at an elite Berlin hotel circa 1929 sing and dance up a storm in Grand Hotel: The Musical. 8 p.m. today in Patricia Corbett Theater at University of Cincinnati. Part of the College-Conservatory of Music's Musical Theater department's Mainstage season. $22. 556-4183.

Loretta Lynn: The country music legend and all-around “Coal Miner's Daughter” begins three nights at Grand Victoria Casino in Rising Sun. 8 p.m. today. $35, $30 for Player Club members. (812) 438-1234.

Jazz: The Miracle Orchestra, a jazz-funk quartet from Boston, brings its act to Top Cat's. 10 p.m. today, 2820 Vine St., Corryville. $5. 281-2005.

Staying In

TV picks: The fifth round of Survivor: The Australian Outback (8 p.m., Channels 12, 7) trims the field to 11. Gervase Peterson of the first Survivor tells TV Guide that he thinks the whole Kucha tribe “may be too cutthroat for their own good. They've been back-stabbers from Day 1, so I think their alliances will implode a lot faster.” Tune in to see if he's right.

Web site of the day: Did you know you can store stuff online? A bunch of Web sites offer free storage of almost anything that can be reduced to a computer file, including documents, music and pictures. At Sharehouse, under the NBCi umbrella, find software files, MP3 music files and tons of Britney Spears pictures for public consumption. The site offers 500 megabytes of free space, about the most generous on the Web. It's sharehouse.nbci.com.

Planning Ahead

24 hours out: BB Riverboats sets sail on its annual Mardi Gras cruise featuring live zydeco music, Cajun food and a mini “big-head” parade. Boarding begins 4 p.m., leaving shore at 6 p.m. Friday from Covington Landing. $20. (859) 261-8500.

48 hours out: Maple Sugar Days at Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve includes all traditions of maple sugaring from tapping the trees to reducing the sap to syrup. Noon-5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Colerain Avenue and Poole Road, Colerain Township. 521-7275.

72 hours out: Target Stars on Ice features Scott Hamilton on his farewell tour with Olympic notables such as Kristi Yamaguchi, Tara Lipinski and Kurt Browning, 7 p.m. Sunday, Firstar Center. $33-$56. 562-4949.

Get To It appears daily. Send items to Get To It, Tempo, Cincinnati Enquirer, 312 Elm St., Cincinnati 45202; fax: 768-8330.
