Cincinnati boys basketball games


Colerain shocks No. 5 Oak Hills 64-38

        Colerain's defense limited fifth-ranked Oak Hills to just 29 percent shooting in a 64-38 shocker in the Division I sectional at Mason on Thursday.

        The Cardinals also had 16 steals. Oak Hills was plagued by foul trouble, including two technical fouls. Colerain made 20 free throws.

        Mike Ferris hit a 3-pointer at the first-quarter buzzer to give Colerain a lead it would not give up. Ferris led Colerain with 18 points.

        Jon Daft added 14 points for Colerain. Oak Hills was led by Mike Lee with 17 points.

        Colerain next plays the Mount Healthy-Taft winner 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mason.

        • Elder 73, Talawanda 41, Division I sectional at Mason — Tim Schenke scored eight of his 14 points in the first quarter as the Panthers jumped out to a 20-7 lead.

        Jim Volpe added 10 points for Elder. Rusty Bennett and Bobby Winkler each scored 11 points for Talawanda.

        Elder next plays Sycamore 7 p.m. Tuesday at UC's Shoemaker Center.

        • Cincinnati Country Day 56, New Miami 44, Division IV sectional at Loveland — A balanced attack by CCD, the No.2 seed, was too much for New Miami.

        The Vikings closed to within five points several times, but CCD managed to pull away every time. T.G. Seward led CCD with 14 points and Danny Gardiner added 10.

        Myron Shelley had a game-high 19 points and Jon Bowman scored 11 points to lead New Miami.

        • Summit Country Day 57, Clark Montesso ri 46, Division IV sectional at Loveland — Starting at the end of the third quarter and continuing into the fourth, Clark Montessori went on a 14-0 run to get within one point. The defense of Summit was too much though, and Clark never got close again.

        Topher Sheldon had a game-high 20 points for Summit and Tim O'Brien added 11.

        Mike Gentile paced Clark Montessori with 19 points, including four 3-pointers.

        Summit Country Day plays CCD 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Loveland.
