CANTON Local swimmers' parade to the victory stand continued Saturday during the final day of the state swimming and diving championships at C.T. Branin Natatorium.
Overall, Cincinnati swimmers and divers captured 14 individual state titles and six relay championships.
Winning Saturday were Tami Ransom and Whitney Myers of Ursuline, Jayme Cramer and Max Leassner of St.Xavier, Rob Kauscher of Anderson, Tiffany Clay of Mount Notre Dame and two relay teams each from St.Xavier and Ursuline.
St.Xavier claimed a record 23rd state championship, dating to 1970. Coach Jim Brower's Bombers have won 10 of the past 12 years.
The 23 swimming championships for St. Xavier are the most in any sport by an Ohio school.
We think we just won the national championship, Brower said. But we probably won't know until the spring, after all the state meets are completed.
Ursuline came through with a fourth (1991, '98, 2000, '01) state championship, beating St. Ursula and Centerville in Division I. Cincinnati schools have won eight of the past 12 years.
Four swimmers won four gold medals each. Cramer won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke; Leassner won the 100 and 200 freestyles; Ransom won the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle, and Myers won the 200 and 500 freestyles. Each also was a member of two winning relay teams.
Gates Mills Hawken won the girls Division II title.
