Seven Hills upsets top seed CHCA

        Seven Hills made 13 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter to upset top-seeded Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy 43-39 in a second-round Division IV sectional boys basketball tournament game at Loveland Wednesday night.

        Sophomore guard Alex Derkson made all six of his free throws in the fourth quarter and finished with a game-high 18 points for the Stingers.

        Seven Hills took the lead for good with 1:30 to play in the fourth quarter on two free throws by Derkson.

        CHCA was led by Jason Hunter with 12 points.

        Seven Hills, which finished the regular season with a 10-10 record, will play Fayetteville at 8 p.m. Friday at Loveland.

        • Fayetteville 58, Harmony 57, Division IV sectional at Loveland — Jason Iles missed his first free throw attempt but made his second with 2.2 seconds to play to give Fayetteville its third win of the season.

        Iles finished the game with 17 points and Dave Pertuset added 11 for the Rockets. Lionel Calhoun paced Harmony with 18 points.

        Fayetteville was 7-of-8 from the line in the fourth quarter.

        Fayetteville will play Seven Hills at 8 p.m. Friday at Loveland.

        • Withrow 55, Lakota West 53, Division I sectional at UC's Shoemaker Center — Chris Washington converted two free throws with 8.7 seconds remaining, enabling the No.8-seeded Tigers to avoid the upset.

        “Chris is an 85 percent free throw shooter,” Withrow coach George Jackson said. “This is the fourth game that he has won for us during the final seconds.”

        Trailing 51-44 with 3:40 remaining, Lakota West scored 10 consecutive points, four each by Kevin Buhrlage and David Hutzelman and two by Adam McIntosh, to take a 53-51 lead with 1:42 remaining.

        Donnie McGuire's jump shot with 1:25 remaining tied the score 53-53. Lakota West missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw situation with 14.6 seconds remaining, setting the stage for Washington, who was fouled while bringing the ball up the court.

        “It's tournament time and Lakota West has all seniors and seniors don't die,” Jackson said. “(Lakota West coach) Mike (Mueller) is a great coach and had the kids ready.”

        Withrow will play St.Xavier on Monday for the sectional championship.

        • Ripley 74, Madeira 57, Division III sectional at Sycamore — Neil Malone made six free throws in the fourth quarter and finished with nine points in the period, to clinch the victory for Ripley.

        Malone finished with 17 points for the Blue Jays. James Turner scored 16 points and Justin Fulton added 15 for Ripley.

        Madeira was led by Bret Underwood with 17 points. Rob Tuke scored 16 points for the Mustangs.
