N.Ky. boys basketball games


Buzzer shot lifts Conner in OT

        Terry Johnson made a basket at the buzzer in overtime to give Conner, the No.4 team in The Enquirer's Northern Kentucky coaches poll, a 70-68 victory over No.9 St. Henry in a boys basketball 33rd District Tournament game Wednesday at St. Henry High School.

        Johnson's shot came after Andrew Veith tied the game for St. Henry with a short baseline jumper with three seconds to play.

        Johnson finished with 19 points and 16 rebounds for the Cougars. Jeremy Stephenson added 18 points for Conner.

        Nick Love scored 21 points for the Crusaders.

        Conner will play Simon Kenton, which beat Ryle 76-59 Wednesday, in the district final at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Henry. Both will advance to the regional tournament.

        • Simon Kenton 76, Ryle 59, 33rd District at St. Henry — Mike Brock and Donnie Baker each scored eight points in the No.5 Pioneers' 29-point first quarter.

        Simon Kenton led 29-5 after the first quarter and 42-9 at halftime.

        Brock finished with a game-high 21 points.

        Justin Doellman scored 17 points and Nick Feagan had 16 to lead Ryle.

        Simon Kenton will play Conner in the district final at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Henry High School. Both teams will advance to the regional.

        • Scott 76, Beechwood 52, 34th District Tournament at Villa Madonna — Ben Lye scored 19 points and Chris Thompson added 15 to lead the No.3 Eagles.

        Ross Hart led all scorers for Beechwood with a game-high 24 points.

        Scott will play the winner of tonight's Dixie Heights-Lloyd game in the district final at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Villa Madonna. Both district finalists will advance to the regional tournament.

        • Holmes 49, Holy Cross 39, 35th District Tournament at Covington Catholic — Brandon Smith had 11 points and Ryan Fischer scored all eight of his points in the fourth quarter as Holmes overcame a 20-points game from Holy Cross' Brandon Smith.

        Holmes will play Covington Catholic in the district final at 7:30p.m. Friday at Covington Catholic. Both teams will advance to the regional tournament.

        • Highlands 82, Dayton 44, 36th District at Bellevue — The Bluebirds went on a 22-0 run after Dayton scored the game's first basket.

        Craig Forbes scored 15 points for the Bluebirds, ranked No.6 in The Enquirer's Northern Kentucky coaches poll.

        Robert Reynolds led Dayton with 14 points.

        Highlands will play the winner of today's Newport Central Catholic-Newport game in the district final at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Bellevue. Both teams will advance to the regional tournament.

        • Campbell County 80, Silver Grove 65, 38th District at Campbell County — Steve Sigmon made three straight 3-pointers at the end of the third quarter, capping a a 10-2 run that gave No.7 Campbell County a 59-49 lead.

        Danny Miller led Campbell County with 20 points. Kevin Reinhart and Sigmon each finished with 18 points.

        Chad McCarter led Silver Grove with 34 points.

        Campbell County will play Bishop Brossart in the district final at 7 p.m. Friday at Campbell County. Both teams will advance to the regional tournament.

        Chris Ryan led Bishop Brossart with 17 points.

        Andrew Gosney paced Pendleton County with a game-high 21 points.

        Brossart will play Campbell County in the district final at 7 p.m. Friday at Campbell County. Both teams will advance to the regional tournament.

        • Grant County 83, Owen County 73, 32nd District Tournament at Walton-Verona — Allen Shafer and Tyler Jones combined to score 16 points in the third quarter as Grant County took a four-point lead after trailing 34-30 at halftime.

        Shafer finished with 30 points, giving him 1,645 career points and making him Grant's top boys scorer.

        Grant County will play Scott County in the district final at 7 p.m. Friday at Walton-Verona. Both teams will advance to the regional.
