NKU women romp in tourney opener

EVANSVILLE, Ind. Michelle Cottrell scored 16 points Wednesday as Northern Kentucky defeated Quincy (Ill.) 69-50 in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at Roberts Stadium.
Cottrell (Boone County) scored 12 points in the first half as NKU (24-3) built a 34-19 lead. Amy Mobley added 11 points for the Norse, who are attempting to win their third consecutive GLVC tournament title.
NKU will play Southern Illinois-Edwardsville a 59-58 winner against Indianapolis at 1 p.m. Friday in the GLVC semifinals. The GLVC championship game is 5p.m. Saturday.
