NKU women romp in tourney opener

        EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Michelle Cottrell scored 16 points Wednesday as Northern Kentucky defeated Quincy (Ill.) 69-50 in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at Roberts Stadium.

        Cottrell (Boone County) scored 12 points in the first half as NKU (24-3) built a 34-19 lead. Amy Mobley added 11 points for the Norse, who are attempting to win their third consecutive GLVC tournament title.

        NKU will play Southern Illinois-Edwardsville — a 59-58 winner against Indianapolis — at 1 p.m. Friday in the GLVC semifinals. The GLVC championship game is 5p.m. Saturday.

        Quincy — McAlinden 1-8 2-2 4, Unnertall 3-9 0-0 6, Sexton 3-6 1-2 7, Lewis 1-5 2-2 4, Kelver 2-5 0-0 4, Lowary 1-3 0-0 2, Farrell 3-10 0-0 7, Hall 1-1 1-1 3, VonderHaar 1-2 0-0 2, Storm 2-2 0-0 4, Traub 3-5 1-1 7. Totals: 21-56 7-8 50.
