Military academy nominees listed
WASHINGTON U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning, R-Southgate, has nominated 38 Kentucky students for appointments to the nation's military service academies.
Students nominated for appointments to the U.S. Naval Academy, West Point and the U.S. Air Force Academy will learn whether they have been accepted sometime this spring, Mr. Bunning said Friday.
The students from Northern Kentucky, their high schools, their hometowns and the academies to which they have been nominated are:
Jeff Fichner, Boone County, Florence, Air Force Academy.
Matthew Foertsch, Covington Catholic, Hebron, Air Force Academy.
Ryan Jones, Ryle, Union, Air Force Academy.
Rachel Stein, Campbell County, Alexandria, Air Force Academy.
Matthew Mayer, Bellevue, Bellevue, Naval Academy.
Louis Rowe, Connor, Hebron, Naval Academy.
Andrew Hill, Highlands, Fort Thomas, West Point.

Free testing for risk of diabetes
EDGEWOOD The Northern Kentucky Health Department is offering free diabetes risk tests and blood sugar screenings March 27-30 at its four county health centers and one community site:
Grant County Health Center in Williamstown, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., March 27.
Kenton County Health Center in Covington, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 28.
Boone County Health Center in Florence, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., March 29.
Campbell County Health Center in Newport, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 30.
Northern Kentucky Community Center in Covington, 4 to 6 p.m. March 28.
An appointment is not necessary. Call Darlene Lageman, R.N., at (859) 525-1770 for information.
Edgewood cancels council meeting
EDGEWOOD Mayor John Link has canceled the March 12 city council meeting because of a light agenda, and the absence of several city officials.
The next regular Edgewood City Council meeting will be March 26.
