N.Ky. boys basketball games


Dixie beats Scott in 34th District crown since '93

        Sophomore Russ Bramlage scored 11 points, including two fourth-quarter baskets to give Dixie the lead for good, and the Colonels beat Scott 46-37 in the 34th District title game Friday at Villa Madonna. The district title is the first for Dixie since 1993.

        Dixie sealed the outcome from the foul line in the closing minutes. Matt O'Toole made four straight free throws to give Dixie a seven-point lead with 21 seconds remaining. O'Toole hit six free throws in the final minute.

        Russ Bramlage led Dixie with 11 points and Matt O'Toole finished with 10. Senior Chris Thompson led all scorers for the Eagles with 17.

        • Simon Kenton 72, Conner 68, 33rd District at St. Henry — Sophomore center Michael Brock hit three free throws in the final 25 seconds and seven-of-eight in the fourth quarter to lead Conner to the district title. Jordan Stowers made a free throw with one second left to ice the game.

        The Cougars led by as many as nine points in the first half behind a barrage of three-pointers.

        Simon Kenton responded in the second half and took the lead in the fourth quarter behind Brock, who scored 11 of his 17 points.

        • Campbell County 49, Bishop Brossart 45, 38th District at Campbell County — Danny Miller made three free throws in a 12-second span to give Campbell County the lead for good in the district title game. Kevin Reinhardt added a field goal with 51.6 seconds remaining and Steve Sigmon clinched the outcome with a pair of free throws with nine seconds remaining.

        Bishop Brossart beat Campbell County in the district finals last season. Both teams advance to the regional tournament beginning next week.

        Reinhardt paced the Camels with 17 points and Sigmon added 12.

        • Covington Catholic 64, Holmes 51, 35th District at Covington Catholic — The Colonels scored the first 15 points of the second half to quickly erased a six-point halftime deficit. Brian Lewin led three double-digit scorers for CovCath with 14 points.

        Brandon Smith led the Bulldogs with 25 points.

        • Scott County 84, Grant County 72, 32nd District at Walton-Verona — Nate Austin and Tyler Hicks combined for 13 of Scott County's 19 first-quarter points. Scott County, the No. 8 team in Kentucky, took a 19-4 lead in the first quarter and was never challenged.

        Tyler Jones led Grant County with 28 points and Eldon Maddox added 26.
