OXFORD Danny Horace scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds Friday night, leading Western Hills, the No.2 team in The Enquirer's Division I area coaches poll, to a 67-58 victory over top-ranked Winton Woods in a boys sectional championship game at Millett Hall.
This wasn't about beating the No.1 team, West Hi coach Lannis Timmons said. It was about keeping the season alive and playing another game.
Western Hills advances to the Division I district championship game next Saturday against the winner of Monday's game at UD Arena between Middletown and Beavercreek.
Horace wasn't the only player to deliver for the Mustangs. Darryl Peterson scored 17 points, Michael Hadnot had 12 and Malcom Andrews added 10.
Winton Woods coach David Lumpkin thought missed opportunities in the first and fourth quarters doomed his Warriors, who were 21-0 and ranked No.2 in the Division I state poll.

We had a lot of good looks in the first quarter but the shots wouldn't fall, Lumpkin said. We fell behind and had to come back all game.
The Warriors were 3-of-11 from the field in the first quarter when the 19-4 Mustangs took an 18-11 lead. Andrews scored five points in the period for Western Hills.
In the fourth quarter, Winton Woods missed the front ends of three consecutive one-and-one bonus free throw situations.
We were seven down (55-48) and if we had hit the free throws, it could have been a one-point game, Lumpkin said. We had our chances, but when you're behind, you have to take advantage of the opportunities.
Western Hills pulled away in the second and third quarters, taking a 52-44 lead into the fourth before Winton Woods made a run. But the Warriors' missed free throws they were 1-of-5 in the quarter were too much to overcome.

The Akron-bound Peterson turned in a stellar defensive effort, limiting Winton Woods forward DeForrest Riley to two field goals and 10 points.
The only way to stop a shooter is to deny the ball, Peterson said. He's a great player and I stayed in his face.
Andrews, a senior point guard who will play at Wright State next season, ran the show. He had four assists and played havoc with Warriors point guard Byron Fields' game.
We knew they would play a zone and that's why it was important to hit some outside shots early, Andrews said. They then came out of the zone, which is what we wanted. Once we got the lead, they seemed to slow down.
The Mustangs' victory gave Horace even more reason to celebrate.
I found out yesterday that I passed the college entrance test (SAT), said Horace, who will play at Miami University next season.
Passing the test took a lot of pressure off and I played relaxed tonight. This is where I'll play (Millett Hall) next year and I wanted to have a good game.
The only Cincinnati-area team to beat Western Hills this season was Elder, a possible opponent if both teams advance to the regional tournament in two weeks at Xavier's Cintas Center.
