FAIRBORN — Beavercreek, unbeaten and the top-ranked Division I team in the state, held off St.Ursula and escaped with a 61-54 overtime victory in their regional semifinal game Wednesday night at Wright State University's Nutter Center.

Beavercreek (25-0) advances to the championship game at noon Saturday against Mother of Mercy.

Tied at 49-49 with 3.3 seconds remaining, St.Ursula missed two free throws, sending the game into overtime.

“As far as we're concerned, we won the game emotionally,” St. Ursula coach Tim Ballinger said. “I hope they're (Beavercreek) smiling, because they got away with one.”

Beavercreek's 6-5 center Alison Bales scored on a short inside shot at the start of overtime, and Heather Kaiser followed with a 3-pointer to give the Beavers control.

St.Ursula appeared out of the game late in the third quarter after Beavercreek took a 44-33 lead. But over the next 10 minutes, the Bulldogs limited the Beavers to five points.

Beavercreek coach Ed Zink said the Beavers didn't deserve to win.

“Sometimes you overcoach,” Zink said. “Instead of keep shooting from the outside, I told the girls to work the ball inside to Alison. That was a mistake. When we went back to shooting from the outside, the girls were tight.”

Sophomore Kristy Mahon led St. Ursula with 26 points and Monica Neltner added 20.
