DAYTON — Cincinnati Country Day shot poorly from the field and the foul line in a 64-54 district championship loss to Tipp City Bethel Friday night, and coach Howard Brownstein wasn't pleased.

        With the tournament format.

“I've been saying this for years,” Brownstein said. “If the district (tournament) is going to be played on a college floor, then all the sectionals should be played in high school gyms.”

Tipp City played two sectional games at UD Arena but CCD's three sectional victories were at Loveland High School.

“Sure, we were allowed to practice here this week, but that's nothing like playing a game,” Brownstein said. “We shot 70 percent from the free throw line this season but look at tonight.”

Although the Indians outscored the Bees from the field 51-48, Tipp City Bethel won the game at the foul line, converting 16-of-25 while CCD was a season-worst 3-of-17.

The second quarter proved to be CCD's downfall.

After CCD senior center Austin Mitchell was forced to the bench with three fouls and Noah Allen was shaken up, Bethel went on a 19-10 run to take a 34-24 halftime advantage.

Bethel's Matt Plunkett scored 11 of his 18 points in the first half.

CCD made a run in both the third and fourth quarters, cutting the deficit to seven points on both occasions but the Bees answered to put the game away.

“They hit a few more 3's than we expected,” Fisher said.
