Staying In
TV picks: This sitcom breaks rules: no laugh track, few punch lines and a lead character who's easy to dislike. That's Mike McNeil (Denis Leary), a New York detective who's sleeping with his wife and his girlfriend. He smokes, drinks and pops pills. But the show pulls viewers in. The Job, 9:30 p.m., Channels 9, 2.
The splits: Drew is into alternate personalities: In one show, pious to impress his boss; in the other, a swinger to impress his insurance agent. The Drew Carey Show, 8 and 9 p.m., Channels 9, 2.
The Goods (What's in stores today)
CD picks: Cincinnati's own Over The Rhine is back in the big leagues today with Films for Radio (Virgin/Backporch; $16.98 CD only), a moody set of pop-rock that marks the band's return to a major label.
Eric Clapton is the week's other big release with Reptile ($18.98 CD, $12.98 cassette), a laid-back set that ranges from bluesy (Come Back Baby, I Want a Little Girl) to covers of J.J. Cale (Travelin' Light) and James Taylor (Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight).
