COLUMBUS — The trophy case at Eastern Brown is full of hardware but none with the inscription “State Champions.”

The undefeated girls basketball team is only one victory away from adding some luster to the Warriors' collection, rallying for a 52-46 victory over Patrick Henry in the Division III state semifinals Thursday.

Eastern Brown (26-0) will play defending champion South Euclid Regina for the title at 11 a.m. Saturday.

“Experience was definitely a factor in the fourth quarter,” Eastern Brown coach Richard Kiser said. “When we fell behind (41-38), there was a lot of time left. I called a timeout to make sure the girls didn't panic and start taking bad shots.”

Until Patrick Henry went on a 10-0 run early in the fourth quarter to take the three-point advantage, Eastern Brown never trailed, although leading scorer Micah Harvey was scoreless.

“I had a bad game last year and at first it was bothering me today,” Harvey said. “Coach ... told me I would be the one to come through at the end.”

Kiser's confidence in Harvey was on the mark.

A 5-foot-8 junior guard who averaged 17.3 points, Harvey scored six straight points and 10 in the quarter, including four free throws in the last 40 seconds.

“I knew that Micah would come around,” said senior guard Elizabeth Burrows, who scored a game-high 24 points. “She is the heart of the team and has done it all season.”

If Eastern Brown had shot well in the first half, the Warriors could have put the game away. The defense forced 17 first-half turnovers, but the Warriors shot only 9-of-28 from the field.

The Warriors' defense was so effective that Patrick Henry took only nine shots in the first half, converting five, but the Patriots were 8-of-11 from the line.
