Highlands - Henderson Co. scouting report
Who: Highlands (24-9) vs. Henderson County (25-8)
When: 8:30 p.m. today
Where: E.A. Diddle Arena, Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green
At stake: a berth in the state semifinals at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Probable starting lineups: Highlands: Tara Boothe, 6-foot-1 junior center (20.4 points a game, 11.2 rebounds); Katie Winkler, 5-8 senior forward (4.4 points, 3 rebounds); Emily Hamel, 5-10 junior forward (3.0 points, 3 rebounds); Katie Konen, 5-10 freshman forward (3.3 points, 3 rebounds); Abbi Gibson, 5-6 freshman guard (4.3 points).
Henderson County: Princess Wimsatt, 5-4 senior guard (15.1 points, 3.8 rebounds); Kera Gibson 5-7 freshman guard (10.5 points, 3.4 rebounds); Ann Buchanan, 5-8 forward/center (3.9 points, 3.3 rebounds); Shonte' Dixon, 5-5 forward/guard, (7.9 points, 4.0 rebounds); Brooke Fisher, 5-10 senior forward (13.7 points, 3.1 rebounds).
Notable: Highlands coach Luci Cecil didn't see much of the Henderson County/Lincoln County game Thursday, but she knows what her team has to avoid tonight: doing things on the court they don't do well, like dribble when they're pressed instead of passing - which was part of the reason the Ladybirds coughed up 18 turnovers in their 52-48 win over Perry County Central.
One thing Highlands does well is defense - the Ladybirds held Perry Central more than 22 points under its average. Henderson County averages 59.3 a game and gives up 48.6.
Henderson County is in the tournament for the first time since 1994, when that group lost to eventual state champion M.C. Napier.
Senior Princess Wimsatt is Henderson County's leading scorer, and her 20 points - including 8-for-8 from the free throw line - was the reason the Colonels eliminated
Lincoln County, 56-48, in Thursday's first round.
Quotable: It's like the dream's continuing. I'm not sure we're down from Cloud Nine. - Highlands coach Luci Cecil
We've played more unselfishly than 1994. I always feel confident with this bunch because somebody's always going to make a play for us. - Henderson County coach Jeff Haile
