Foster parents sought in Butler County

OXFORD Butler County Children Services is holding a two-hour workshop next month to help recruit much-needed foster and adoptive parents.
The April 24 workshop will be 7-9 p.m. at Miami University's School of Continuing Education. There is no charge.
Foster parents provide temporary homes for children at risk of harm if they remain in their own homes.
The workshop will include an overview of Children Services programs and procedures, and a discussion about becoming a foster or adoptive parent.
Foster parents are compensated for the child's living expenses. Medical and dental care and vouchers for clothing are provided by the children's services board.
The shortage of foster care in Butler County has resulted in placements elsewhere, even though the goal is to keep children in the county.
In January 1999, there were 564 Butler County children in foster care. This January, there were 399, said children services spokesman Bob Walker.
To register or for more information, call Miami University's School of Continuing Education at 529-1508, or Butler County Children Services Board at 887-4055.
