Top baseball teams face early tests

The Cincinnati Enquirer
Opening day of baseball season is filled with some interesting matchups featuring top-ranked teams.
Moeller, No.1 in The Enquirer's Division I poll that will be published Tuesday, meets Anderson (No.6) today at the Blue Ash Sports Complex.
Anderson has one of the best pitchers (Jensen Lewis) and we'll see him Monday, Moeller coach Mike Cameron said.
Centerville, one of Dayton's top-ranked teams, meets No.3 Elder at 5:30 p.m. at Hille Field today, while Oak Hills (No.9) travels to Fairfield (4) in a Greater Miami Conference game.
Another interesting game has Loveland (No.7), a Division I team this year, traveling to Cincinnati Country Day for an encounter with coach Tim Dunn's Indians (No.11, Division II).
Most of the games today and Tuesday are non-league; league play starts Wednesday, highlighted by Moeller at St. Xavier and Fairfield at Oak Hills.
Hamilton, ranked No.2, opens the season today and Wednesday with away and home games against Princeton. Coach Dan Bowling's Big Blue also play host to Colerain Friday and play Elder Saturday at Hille Field.
SOFTBALL: The season also begins today with powerful Sycamore playing host to Milford.
In other top games, Mount Notre Dame visits St. Ursula and McAuley travels to Mercy.
Although Sycamore was hit hard by graduation, coach Debbie Klemt's Aviators return senior pitcher Beth Connor, one of the top pitchers in Cincinnati last season.
BOYS TENNIS: A showdown between St. Xavier and Sycamore on Thursday at St. X highlights a limited schedule this week.
