Morgan Elementary names new principal

Perry, of Ross Middle School, moves up, over

By Sue Kiesewetter
Enquirer Contributor

ROSS TOWNSHIP - When Tom Perry changes jobs July 1, he won't be going very far.

The Ross Middle School assistant principal will become principal in the district's Morgan Elementary School, replacing Steve Miller, who is retiring after 21 years in Ross Schools, the last 12 as Morgan's principal. Mr. Perry was given a two-year contract and will earn $62,000.

“I'm looking forward to going back to an elementary school,” Mr. Perry said. “Professionally, I wanted to move forward and I wanted a good elementary school. This is the perfect opportunity for me. I can stay in the district where I already know the great kids and great families.”

His vacancy means the district will be looking for both a principal - longtime principal Steve Kidd is retiring - and assistant principal at its middle school.

“We felt he (Mr. Perry) was ready to become a principal and he was ready to move back to the elementary level,” said Superintendent David McWilliams. “He's strong in curriculum, especially math. He worked well with the staff at the middle school in developing the math program as well as overall intervention.”

Mr. McWilliams said he has received almost 20 applications for principal at the middle school. He expects to make a recommendation to the board of education next month. Once that individual is hired, he or she would help hire an assistant principal.

Before Ross, Mr. Perry was an elementary school teacher in Hamilton Schools for six years and in Richmond, Ind., for two years. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Miami University and is a 1984 graduate of Felicity-Franklin High School.

Mr. Perry is married and has three children, including a first-grade daughter enrolled in Ross' Elda Elementary School.
