Cincinnati high school highlights


Aichele's 18 strikeouts lead West Hi over Walnut

        Junior pitcher Shawn Aichele struck out 18 batters and allowed only one earned run, leading Western Hills to a 5-4 victory over Walnut Hills in a baseball game Thursday at Western Hills.

        Besides pitching a complete game, Aichele also went 2-for-3. Steve Banks drove in the winning run with a single in the fifth inning after the Eagles tied the game with a four-run fourth.

        • Moeller 6, Anderson 5 — Relief pitcher Rob Seimers retired the final four batters, preserving the Crusaders' victory.

        Adam Visnic drove in Paul Frietch in the fourth inning with what proved to be the winning run.

        • Hillsboro 7, Miami Trace 6 — Todd Fauber doubled to drive in Ryan Chapman with the win ning run with one out in the seventh inning.

        • Batavia 2, Goshen 1 — Freshman pitcher Matt Heber's first varsity start proved to be a success for the Bulldogs.

        Heber gave up five hits in the complete-game victory. He also singled, then scored on a single by Scott Redmond in the second inning.

        Brandon Fish followed with a double to drive in the winning run.
Softball

        • Ross 2, McAuley 1 — Katie Weisbecker drove in Rachel Richardson with a single in the seventh inning, breaking a 1-1 tie for the Rams.

        Richardson, who tripled with one out in the seventh, pitched a complete game. She struck out 12 batters and allowed just three hits.

        • Amelia 1, Northwest 0 — Jessie Frye led off the first inning with a single and scored on a wild pitch for the Barons.

        • Landmark Christian 1, Summit Country Day 0 — Freshman Tiffany Burlew allowed only one hit and Ashley Oliver smacked a homerun for the only run in the fifth inning for the Golden Eagles.

        • Reading 10, Mount Healthy 9 — An inside-the-park, bases-loaded home run by Meridith Gertz in a seven-run fifth inning paved the way for the Blue Devils' victory.

        • Milford 10, Turpin 7 Doubles by Mandy Shinkle and Lisa Lehr and a triple by Tracy Shannon led to seven runs in the sixth inning for the Eagles.
