Amelia tops Batavia 13-11 in ninth

RBI singles by Matt Graves and Jay Vinson in the top of the ninth inning helped the Amelia baseball team to a 13-11 win over Batavia on Saturday.
Reliever Graves came in to pitch with two on and two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Graves pitched shutout ball for the final 2 1/3 innings for the win.
Graves was 4-for-6 with a home run and six RBI.
In four games this week, Graves was 11-for-16 with two home runs and 15 RBI.
St. Xavier 7, Dixie Heights 6 (10) Zach Ellis led off the 10th inning with a double and advanced to third on a fielder's choice. Bob Gruiber followed with a one-out sacrifice fly enabling Ellis to score the winning run.
Marty Mooney came on in relief in the sixth inning to earn the victory. Keith Jackson and Pat LeMasters each homered for the Bombers.
North College Hill 9, Hughes 8 NCH's Andy Meyer scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh inning.
In the bottom half of the inning, after Hughes had scored five runs to pull within one run, Meyer picked off a runner midway between first and second base, before the runner from third could score.
Wyoming 4, Little Miami 3 P.J. Pope led off the fifth inning with a single, stole second and scored the winning run on a single by Alex Russell. Russell went the distance on the mound.
Winton Woods 9, Finneytown 8 Steve Barnes' bases-loaded double in the top of the seventh inning capped a six-run inning for the Warriors. Winton Woods scored all six runs with two outs.
Lebanon 6, Franklin 5 Steve Turpin drove in Dan Wysong with a single in the top of the seventh and Jeff Michael followed with a single to bring home Dave Julien for the go-ahead run.
Fayetteville 7, Hillsboro 6 Adam Burwinkle singled to score one run in the fourth inning and Jason Iles followed with a two-run single to put the Rockets on top for good.
Edgewood 7, Lakota East 5 Brandon Osborne led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a triple. Drew Beckett and Scott Shepherd followed with RBI hits to give Edgewood a 7-5 advantage after Lakota East had tied the score at 5-5 in the top half of the inning.
Highlands 2, Watkins Memorial 1 Senior outfielder Mike Fath, moved to pitcher for the first time in his career, threw a complete-game one-hitter while striking out nine to give the Bluebirds their third win of the season.
Walton Verona 7, Bellevue 5 Josh Thornton's two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning gave Walton-Verona a 4-3 lead.
Fast-pitch softball
New Richmond 4, Norwood 1 Sophomore Jill Boys went the distance (striking out six) and drove in the winning run with a two-run homer in the second inning to propel the Lions.
Western Brown 2, Little Miami 1 Lee Smith's two-out single in the top of the second inning provided Western Brown with the margin of victory. Freshman pitcher Jamie Wallace struck out eight and earned her first career varsity win.
Lebanon 2, Franklin 1 Katrina Engle doubled in Leah Tufts after Tufts drove in Stephanie LeVan, to give Lebanon a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. Tufts held Franklin to one run en route to the victory.
Seton 4, Harrison 1 Heidi Fischesser's two-out two-run single driving in Elise Meyer and Katie Bonomini clinched the Saints' first win of the season in the second game of a doubleheader. Harrison won the first game 10-3.
Middletown Madison 16, North College Hill 0 Samantha McGuire walked one batter to give the Trojans their only baserunner en route to a no-hitter. McGuire (2-0) struck out 11 for the game.
Fairfield 2-6, Sylvania Southview 1-Pickerington 0 Fairfield won the Pickerington Invitational behind the arm of Emily Breitholle who pitched a shutout against Pickerington in the first game and the final three innings of shutout ball against Southview.
The wins gave Fairfield coach Brenda Stieger her 100th and 101st career victories. At the plate, Fairfield was led by Kyla Chaney, who went 5-for-9.
Walton-Verona 10, Owen County 0 Sarah Edgington drove in a career-high six RBI and hit two home runs to lead Walton-Verona. Edgington has hit five home runs in the last three games.
