Good technique important when doing squats

By David Patania

Question: I want to tighten up my butt and thighs. Are squats a good exercise for that?

Answer: Squats are great for tightening up the butt and thighs. Squats are probably one of the best exercises to do for the rear end and legs, I highly recommend them. However, proper form is of the utmost importance with regard to the squat movement so as to avoid injury and ensure results.

I also recommend that you go to your nearest fitness facility and have a staff member instruct you on how to perform proper squat technique. Once you learn how to properly perform the squat, you will see great results with no injuries to speak of. While you are at it, have the staff member show you how to do lunges as well, which are also great for the rear end.

Remember to properly warm up before and cool down after each workout.

Q: What do you think about those machines that are supposed to build muscle by sending a small electric current into the body? Have you seen the advertisements and what do you think?

A: Save your money, my friend, and start a consistent routine of exercise and proper nutrition. Keep your body moving, eat healthy, do it consistently and you will see results.

The only sure thing about contraptions you see on television is that they are sure to separate you from your money. No matter what kind of infomercial machines that are invented (or dreamed up out of momentary insanity), a sure fire, inexpensive way to ensure good health is to get exercise (30-60 minutes at least 3 days per week) and proper nutrition.

If you are a beginner, start off slow and work your way up to longer durations and intensities.

Of course, another option is to give me all of your extra, hard earned money and let me go in my garage and build you a “high tech” fitness machine out of some old computer parts.

Seriously, a simple foundation of basic exercise is a great foundation from which to start. You can then work your way up from there.
