Rodgers coming for Flying Pig clinic, relay

The Flying Pig Marathon doesn't attract world-class competition, but this year's pre-race expo will have a world-class feel.
Pig officials announced Bill Rodgers, perhaps the greatest American marathoner ever, will join world-record holder Khalid Khannouchi on a panel at the Runner's World Clinic May 5 at the Albert B. Sabin Cincinnati Convention Center.
With the success we had last year, we wanted to add a legend, said race spokeswoman Suzanne Deatherage. Khalid had so much fun he wanted to come back.
Rodgers, who won the Boston and New York Marathon four times each, will run in the Pig as a member of a relay team. A chance to be on his team will be auctioned off at the Celebrity Relay Auction April 19 at BarrelHouse Brewing Company.
Bidding begins at $600. A spot on a team for Runner's World columnist Jeff Galloway also will be auctioned off.
Registration for the Flying Pig, which will be run May 6, is ahead of last year's race: 5,668 runners have signed up already. Last year the race drew 6,200.
Registration fee goes from $55 to $75 on April 15.
The new Pig Five-Mile has drawn 948 runners for far. The limit is 1,500.
You can register by calling (513) 721-7447 or through www.flyingpigmarathon.com.
