CovCath's Piper makes Dixie pay

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Senior designated hitter Kraig Piper homered and drove in three runs in the opener and was 3-for-3 in the second game to help Covington Catholic in a sweep of Dixie Heights. CovCath won the first game 11-1 and the second game 5-2.

Piper singled to spark CovCath's five-run fifth inning in the second game.

Senior catcher Elliott Brass hit a solo homer in the second inning of the opener to get Covington Catholic rolling.

        • St. Henry 6, Jeffersonville (Ind.) 5 — After loading the bases with no outs, Patrick Muldoon and Dustin Pierce each hit two-run singled to erase a 5-2 deficit and win the game for St. Henry.

        • Conner 10, Holy Cross 4 — Senior catcher Adam Raney hit his first career varsity home run a big one as he smacked a seventh-inning grand slam in Conner's win at Holy Cross. Sophomore Chuck Houston had six strikeouts in his complete-game win.

        • Holmes 10, Mason County 7 — Senior catcher Perry Smith's three-run homer highlighted Holmes' four-run fourth inning, when the Bulldogs took the lead for good. Smith added an RBI single in Holmes' three-run second. The win was the fifth in a row for the Bulldogs. Junior Jesse Johnson improved to 3-0 with the win.
