City safety director resigns
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Citing health reasons, Cincinnati's Public Safety Director Kent
Ryan resigned Friday.
The Safety Director oversees the city fire and police departments.
He has faced criticism following the shooting of Timothy Thomas last
week in Over-the-Rhine.
Monday night - after a contentious council committee meeting in
the afternoon in which large crowds took over the meeting and accused
city officials and police of tolerating racial profiling and the
excessive force against blacks - Mr. Ryan took ill and was
hospitalized. Ryan, 55, has been in and out of the hospital since
then.
