Cincinnati high school highlights

Wisman, Indian Hill roll 9-3

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Indian Hill pitcher Laura Wisman, after starting the season 0-2, has won five straight.

She beat Finneytown 9-3 Thursday. She has allowed just 12 hits and has struck out 48 in the five wins. She went the distance Thursday, allowing three hits and striking out eight. She also drove in three runs.

        • Lakota East 6, Lakota West 4 — Erin Medley led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a double and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Lauren Mustain. Amber Groeting then scored on an error to push Lakota West's lead to 6-3.

        • Norwood 4, Wilmington 2 — Tessa Diersing struck out 10 in the complete game, sitting down the Hurricanes in order in the bottom of the seventh after Norwood had advanced its lead to 4-2 when Dawn McCarthy scored in the top of the inning.

Baseball

               • Middletown 6-8, Princeton 5-9 — Greg Spanel hit a solo homer in the top of the eighth to lead Middletown in the first game of a doubleheader.

Princeton took the second game when Jason Schafer lined a two-run single in the top of the seventh.

“Schafer pitched 6 1/3 innings in the first game, but we had to play him at first in an emergency situation in the second game because we are short on numbers,” Princeton coach Brian Leach said. “It surprised me a little when he got the hit.”

        • Hamilton 3, Oak Hills 0 — Todd Richardson went the distance, allowing only a leadoff single in the top of the second inning.

The Big Blue scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth. After a double and single by Nate Mahon and Patrick Joos, Eddie Ross was intentionally walked to load the bases with no outs. Dustin Pearson and Tim Galbraith followed another walk with RBI fielder's choices.

        • Finneytown 4, Indian Hill 1 — Junior Jim Brehm struck out 14 in the complete-game victory. Brehm has 40 strikeouts in his last 14 innings pitched.

        • Ross 11, Harrison 9 — Senior first baseman Dominic Bogolo hit a three-run inside-the-park home run in the top of the seventh.
