Schools to reopen Monday
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Cincinnati Public Schools in the areas of unrest plan to open as normal Monday, when students are to return from spring break.
We are communicating with staff and closely monitoring the situation, said Jan Leslie, district spokeswoman. Any decision to close will be made on the recommendations of police and city officials.
The safety of students and staff at schools in the area Vine Street, Porter-Hays and Taft High is the top priority, Ms. Leslie said.
Several schools have been sites of minor vandalism since the riots began.
Windows were broken at the Academy of World Languages and Taft High over the past three days, and someone broke into Porter-Hays on Thursday and set off an alarm.
Although St. Joseph School in the West End is on spring break until April 23, its principal is already thinking about the 200 students when they return.
Sister Carol Ann Mause will ask teachers to listen to the children and watch for signs of distress. She'll enlist help from the school psychologist, if needed.
Parents just need to let their children know, no matter what happens, we need to do things peacefully, Sister Mause said.
