UK's Lorenzen, Boyd share QB duties

The Cincinnati Enquirer

LEXINGTON — Quarterbacks Jared Lorenzen (Highlands) and Shane Boyd split time running the offense during Saturday morning's scrimmage at the Nutter Training Center.

Lorenzen was 8-of-18 passing for 89 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. The left-hander guided the Wildcats to three touchdowns.

Boyd was 8-of-16 passing for 101 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He led the 'Cats to two TDs and a field goal.

Third-team QB Trey Barclay played briefly and completed one of two passes.

“Overall, I think the offensive execution was better because it was the second day in a row that we didn't add anything,” coach Guy Morriss said. “We've had improvement on both sides of the football.”

But, Morriss added: “We need to get our passing game better. Our pass protection suffered a little becaue we have concentrated so much on the running game. Our quarterbacks are making better reads.”

Junior running back Artose Pinner rushed for 44 yards on eight carries, including a touchdown run. Senior Joel Bryan ran four times for 42 yards, including a 5-yard TD.
