Net travel site wins federal OK

Orbitz received the go for liftoff from the U.S. Department of Transportation over the weekend. With the government approval the Internet travel site partially owned by Delta Air Lines will begin operations in June.
There's no evidence to justify preventing operation of the Web site announced last year, the agency said in a letter to Orbitz chairman Jeff Katz.
Delta owns the portal along with United, American, Northwest and Continental airlines. The airlines teamed up to compete with other online ticket brokers.
Those rivals, including Travelocity.com and Expedia.com, oppose the airlines' plan to sell tickets online, saying it gives them pricing control.
Delta officials have said it just gives customers another choice.
