Comair scrubbing more flights

Comair on Thursday said it was canceling flights 30 days in advance because of the continuing pilots strike.

The Erlanger-based regional airline previously had been scratching flights seven days out and not accepting advanced bookings for seven days beyond that.

Comair's 1,350 pilots walked out March 26, citing differences over work rules, retirement benefits, job protection and pay. The strike has grounded Comair, the nation's third-largest regional carrier and a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines.

Advance tickets still may be purchased, but those flights will be canceled if the strike comes within 30 days of the travel date.

Delta, which operates its second-largest hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, also is counting down to a possible pilots strike April 29.

Officials from the 9,700-member pilots union and Delta, the nation's third-largest carrier, met for a second straight day on Thursday at the National Mediation Board in Washington, D.C.

Neither side would comment on the talks, saying mediation board officials had imposed a media blackout.

Humana buying Anthem unit

Louisville-based Humana Inc. is buying an Anthem Inc. subsidiary that administers health benefits to more than a million military personnel and their families.

The price was not disclosed. The transaction, which requires regulatory approval, would boost Humana's military membership under its Tricare program to more than 2 million, and add $365 million to Humana's annual revenue in 2001.

Tricare includes about 88,000 military personnel in Ohio, as well as personnel in Kentucky and Indiana. Anthem is based in Indianapolis.
