BURLINGTON Boone County police said Thursday the woman whose body was found in the Ohio River last week died from multiple blows to the head.
Boone County Police Lt. Jack Banks said the woman had been dead at least six weeks, and police were hoping to use her distinctive tattoos to identify her.
The nude body of the white woman was pulled from the water at about 8 p.m. April 11 near Petersburg, where it had become entangled in boat dock pilings. Lt. Banks said Thursday the woman was about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighed about 145 pounds.
The body bears a tattoo of a rose with the letters M and E on the right ankle. Another tattoo with the name Michael is on the left ankle.
The site where the body was found is downriver from the location where police think Richard Lambert, 23, of Petersburg dumped the body of a young woman killed in February.
I'm not tying anything to the Lambert person, Lt. Banks said Thursday.
Lt. Banks said he has sent messages to authorities in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana asking if there are any missing persons who fit the description of the body. He said results of blood tests on the body are expected within six weeks.
Police have not commented on the possibility the body was that of the woman they think Mr. Lambert killed. He was arrested after authorities received a tip and found blood on a boat ramp and in the bed of his pickup truck.
Mr. Lambert is charged with a felony count of tampering with physical evidence and a misdemeanor count of abuse of a corpse. He is being held at the Boone County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
