Queensgate crash kills 3

One also critical in 1-car accident

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Two Over-the-Rhine brothers and a Norwood teen were killed Wednesday night in a one-car accident on an Interstate 75 exit ramp in Queensgate.

All three died at the scene, and a fourth man is in critical condition at University Hospital.

Police said the vehicle crossed the southbound Ezzard Charles exit ramp, struck a chain-link fence, then crossed Western Avenue before striking a retaining wall at 1401 Western Ave.

The 11 p.m. crash left the car on its top with the occupants trapped inside the wreckage.

        Dead are:

The driver, Jason Brooks, 19, of the 500 block of E. 12th Street in Over-the-Rhine.

His brother Eric Brooks, 20, of the same address.

Juan Chatman, 18, of the 5300 block of Section Avenue in Norwood.

Seriously injured was Antonio Wright, 20, of the 200 block of Magnolia Street in Over-the-Rhine. He remains in critical condition at University Hospital.

A witness, Chet Clark, 42, of Westwood, who drives a street sweeper for the city of Cincinnati, was on his way to work on southbound Interstate 75 when, he said, the car “flew past me.”

“I was doing 65; he had to be doing at least 100,” Mr. Clark said.

Mr. Clark said the speeding car left the interstate at the Ezzard Charles Drive exit, where the driver lost control. The car went airborne, he said, spinning in the air and flying over a guardrail before resting on its top.

Police said they are continuing their investigation into the crash.
