Cyclones on brink of elimination
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Cincinnati Cyclones left wing Brad Defauw (MCL sprain) will miss Game 5 of the IHL playoffs tonight against Orlando Solar Bears at Firstar Center.
The Solar Bears, leading 3-1, can clinch the series tonight. Faceoff is 7:30p.m.
Defauw, who played in all 82 regular season games, is a contender for the IHL's Iron Man Award. He is also a candidate for the Ken McKenzie Award, given to the American-Born IHL rookie of the year.
I've been on both sides of these kinds of situations, Cyclones coach Ron Smith said of facing elimination. You win one game and the other team begins to tighten up, then if you win another game, they lose confidence and you gain confidence. It's a unique thing, but it happens. Both teams know that the series could be reversed right now.
Tonight might be the final game in franchise history, given its and the league's shaky financial situation.
