OSU football recruit dies
The Associated Press
TOLEDO A top high school running back from Ohio who planned to play at Ohio State collapsed during a pickup basketball game and died.
Drushaun Humphrey was pronounced dead Monday at Medical College of Ohio Hospital after arriving in full arrest, said Jim Pauwels, a hospital official.
A preliminary autopsy Tuesday did not reveal the cause of the death, the coroner's office said.
The size and speed of the 6-foot-3, 240-pound junior impressed Ohio State coaches so much he was offered and accepted a scholarship before his junior season.
I was in awe of him, said Rick Rios, his high school coach.
The National Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research in Chapel Hill, N.C., says at least five high school athletes have died in the United States this school year from heart problems.
