Going out

        Ensemble Theatre: The Lanford Wilson festival going on all over the city takes another step with Mr. Wilson's relationship drama A Sense of Place, set in the Hamptons, the famous summer getaway where our social betters gather. 8 p.m. today, Ensemble Theatre, 1127 Vine St., Over-the-Rhine; through May 20. $20-$25. 421-3555.

        Blues guitar: Acclaimed guitarist Tommy Castro mixes up an alluring blend of straight-ahead blues and Memphis-style soul for a night of driving, innovative music. 8:30 p.m. today,Southgate House, 24 E. Third St., Newport. $12-$15. 779-9462.

        Decorative arts: Ulysses Dietz, curator of decorative arts at New Jersey's Newark Museum, shares a few ideas on dressing up houses with “House and Home: Household Furnishings and the Ideal Home in America.” It's all about the ways we have transformed houses into homes over the past 300 years. 2:30 p.m. today, Cincinnati Art Museum auditorium, Eden Park.         Cantus: This new, all-male ensemble out of Minnesota leaves its instruments at home and celebrates the joys of a capella in a free public concert. 8 p.m. today, Kumler Chapel, Miami University, Oxford. (513) 529-3014.

Staying In

        TV picks: Too much TV, too little time, on a busy sweeps Wednesday: Angela Lansbury returns in Murder She Wrote: The Last Free Man (8 p.m., Channels 12, 7); Keenen Ivory Wayans appears on his brother's sitcom, My Wife and Kids (8 p.m., Channels 9, 2); Biography profiles Dennis Franz (8 p.m., A&E); and Once and Again ends the season — and possibly the series — with the wedding in doubt (10 p.m., Channels 9, 2). And don't forget new episodes on NBC (Channels 5, 22) of Ed (8 p.m.), The West Wing (9 p.m.) and Law & Order (10 p.m.).

        • TV Critic John Kiesewetter also says PBS debuts Willa Cather's Song of the Lark, about a pioneer woman (Alison Elliot) who becomes a famous opera singer (8 p.m., Channels 48, 16).

        Disc picks: Destiny's Child rules the record racks this week with Survivor (Columbia; $18.98 CD, $12.98 cassette), sure to be one of the biggest pop hits of the summer.
       It's a big week for Stevie Nicks, who gets sampled on the new Destiny's Child and releases her first CD of new material since 1994's sloppy Street Angel. Trouble in Shangri-La (Reprise; $18.98 CD, $12.98 cassette) features a boatload of her famous fans, including Sheryl Crow, Macy Gray, Natalie Maines, Sarah McLachlan.

Planning Ahead

        24 hours out: The Cincinnati Arts Association's multimedia arts festival — that would be InterMedia — roars onto the scene with Cremaster 2, latest installment in the acclaimed Cremaster series by Matthew Barney. 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Showcase Cinemas Cincinnati, Norwood Lateral at Reading Road. $10. 977-4165.

        48 hours out: City Hall opens Council Chambers for something a little more soothing than what usually goes on there: Classical music, good food and drink when the energetic young chamber ensemble Proteus 5 headlines the popular Mayors 801 Plum Concert Series. 7 p.m. Friday,City Hall, Eighth and Plum Streets, downtown. $10-$15. 381-6868.

        72 hours 'til Saturday: Some of the city's top designers strut their decorative stuff in the Cincinnati Ballet's Designer Showhouse, starring a complete makeover of a historic Cincinnati mansion.
