Two Ohio Ford plants on hiatus
Ford Motor Co. will idle assembly plants in Lorain and Avon Lake for two weeks because of slumping van and minivan sales. About 3,400 workers will be temporarily laid off from May 14-29 at the Lorain Assembly Plant and the Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake.
Ford had planned to idle the factories for one week, but added a second week after April sales figures came in.
Ex-speaker on insurer's board
Former Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives Jo Ann Davidson has been named to the board of Western-Southern Life Insurance Co., one of the Tristate's largest insurers.
Ms. Davidson, who served 10 terms in the legislature, represented the 24th House district in eastern and southeastern Franklin County.
Cincinnati-based Western-Southern primarily offers insurance and investment products and has more than $24 billion in assets.
Magazine takes note of Convergys
Convergys Corp., the Cincinnati billing and customer care provider, was named the world's largest inbound teleservices provider by Customer Inter@ction Solutions magazine. It also ranked Convergys third in outbound telecommunications services and third largest interactive service provider in its annual top 50 teleservice agency rankings.
Convergys, which operates 50 customer contract centers employing more than 40,000 agents, has topped the magazine's inbound telecommunications category for four consecutive years.
