NEWPORT — Boone County and Cincinnati water rescue units will resume searching today for a man who may have drowned Friday evening in the Licking River.

        Newport Police say four men had been fishing when one decided to try to swim across the river. When he was unable to get to the middle, he summoned help from the others.

        Officials say one of the men reached the victim but was unable to bring him to shore. Rescue units were called just before 6 p.m. The missing man has been identified as Michael P. Haney, 24, of Overton Street in Newport. Rescue units searched the river until about 11 p.m.
